Until now, you must have seen the temples of Lord Shri Ram, where only Rama, Lakshmana Janaki and Hanuman are worshipped. But I have never heard that the sister of Lord Rama is worshiped in any temple. Today we will tell you about a temple where Sri Ram’s sister is worshipped.
Sri Rama’s sister’s temple is located in Kullu, Himachal, where she is worshipped, not only Sri Rama’s sister but also her husband.
You may remember the name of Lord Sri Ram’s father or mother, but you may not remember or even know the name of his sister. You will also think that he had a sister too? You will find very few people who will realize that Shri Ram also had a sister. And they are worshiped too.
There is one such temple in Himachal Pradesh, where Lord Rama’s sister is mainly worshipped. About 50 kilometers from Kullu in Himachal lies an ancient temple where Shanta Devi, the sister of Lord Sri Ram, is worshiped daily. Not only local people but also devotees from other cities come and worship in the temple. It is said that a devotee who worships in this temple with true faith gets the blessings of Shanta Devi as well as Lord Rama. The festival of Dussehra is celebrated here with much fanfare.
According to mythology, it is said that Shanta, the sister of Lord Sri Rama, was older than him. Many Bagha people believe that after his birth, King Dasharatha had no son to carry on the dynasty. After that, King Dasharatha performed Yajna to his son Kameshti. After performing the Yajna, Rama, Bharata, and Judwa (TWINS) Lakshmana and Shatrughna were born. However, it is said that King Dasharatha adopted his daughter before the birth of the four brothers.
Sri Rama’s sister and her name Shanta is also mentioned in Ramayana. He was the eldest among four brothers. It is said that Shanta was the daughter of Dasharatha and Kaushalya, who was adopted by Kaushalya’s elder sister Varshini. It is said that Varshini did not have any children after which she expressed her desire to adopt Shanta and King Dasharatha adopted her.
According to mythology, Shanta had knowledge of Vedas and arts as well as sculpture. Shanta Devi was married to Shringa Rishi. Also Lord Rama’s sister Anga was also the queen of the country. Along with the goddess, her husband Shringa Rishi is also worshiped in the Shanta temple of Kullu.
