The Indian men’s archery team, consisting of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, was also defeated in the quarter-finals by Turkiye with a 6-2 loss. Despite a strong performance from Pravin Jadhav, who scored several high points, inconsistent shooting and critical errors, particularly from Dhiraj Bommadevara, led to India’s defeat. The team struggled with their shots and decision-making under pressure.

All six Indian archers will continue to compete in individual events and mixed team rounds starting this week.

Hockey :

The Indian men’s hockey team has won one match and drawn another in Pool B. They defeated New Zealand 3-2 in a close encounter and drew 1-1 with Argentina. Upcoming matches include games against Ireland, Belgium, and Australia. Currently, India is ranked 3rd in their group with 4 points.

Late on Friday, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said that CrowdStrike released an update that started affecting IT systems worldwide on July 18.

Reason for the Outage:

It is not a security incident or a cyberattack. A defect was found in a content update for the Windows Hosts System. The issue impacted computers running the Windows operating system and CrowdStrike software.” Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.” says CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz. Separately, Microsoft said on Friday that its cloud services were restored after an outage, although many users still reported problems. CrowdStrike’s shares closed down 11%.

India’s IT Ministry:

The central government in India noticed the outage and said it is talking with Microsoft to fix the problem. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology might release advice about the outage. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the IT ministry is in touch with Microsoft regarding the global outage.

Four people died in rain-related incidents in the state in 24 hours last week, according to data from the Relief Commissioner’s Office.

Villages and Districts Affected by Floods-

Nearly 1,500 villages in 22 districts were affected by floods, and five people died in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh, according to the state relief commissioner’s office on Sunday, July 14. Several rivers including the Ganga and the Yamuna, are overflowing because of rains in Uttar Pradesh.

Two people died in Pratapgarh, and one person each died in Raebareli and Siddharth Nagar due to drowning.

Rainfall and Rising Water Levels-

Uttar Pradesh recorded an average of 30 mm of rain in the last 24 hours in the past week, officials reported.
The rain has caused water levels in several rivers to rise.

“Teams of the NDRF and the SDRF are working with the local administration to handle flood-related issues in the affected areas.
We have set up 712 flood relief camps for people in affected areas and 226 animal shelters for their livestock,” said State Relief Commissioner Naveen Kumar.

According to details from the irrigation department, the Rapti River is flowing above the danger mark in Gorakhpur and Siddharthnagar,
the Ghaghra River in Ballia, the Ramganga River in Shahjahanpur, the Kunhara River in Siddharthnagar, and the Rohini River in Maharajganj.

In 30 districts, there has been heavy rain (over 120% of normal). In 14 districts, rain has been normal. In 15 districts, rain has been below normal.
In 10 districts, there has been very little rain. In six districts, less than 40% of the normal rain has fallen, according to the relief commissioner’s office.

Chief Minister’s Visit to Flood-Affected Areas-

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited some flood-affected areas in Lakhimpur Kheri and Pilibhit districts.
He checked the relief materials being provided in these areas.

Over 600 villages in the state have had both human life and agriculture affected by floods, while at least 52 other villages are currently facing erosion.

The police said that one of them, Venkatesh Narasaiya Alluri (26), is a YouTuber, and the other, Lukman Mohammad Shafi Sheikh (28), claims to be a businessman. The Mumbai Police have filed separate cases against them both. The police said the two men came from Andhra Pradesh to attend the wedding. The police released them after giving them a notice and taking legal action in both cases. The grand wedding was also attended by global celebrities, business tycoons, and politicians.

High Profile Celebrities and Politicians

Prime Minister Narendra Modi blessed the newlywed couple Anant and Radhika on Saturday. Modi went to the Ambani family-owned Jio World Convention Centre for a wedding reception called ‘Shubh Aashirwad’.

From Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and others attended the grand wedding, which many called the “wedding of the year.”

Rajinikanth also attended with his wife Lata, daughter Soudarya, son-in-law Vishagan Vanangamudi, and grandson Veer. The Tamil actor, dressed in traditional Tamil clothes, danced to beats with Ranveer and Anil Kapoor, while the groom Anant tried to join in.

The three-day Ambani wedding is the last event in a series of parties the family has hosted since March. The pre-wedding celebrations began in Jamnagar, Gujarat, featuring performances by star Rihanna and top Bollywood celebrities.

Heavy rains caused waterlogging in parts of Mumbai on July 8. Commuters had trouble getting through the flooded streets.
Parked cars were submerged in the rainwater. Mumbai commuters walked through knee-deep water that partly covered vehicles in many areas. At the same time, traffic jammed the city’s Eastern and Western Express highways. Water on the tracks made railway authorities cancel some long-distance trains.
TV images showed some passenger trains stopped on flooded tracks and some commuters walking on tracks to reach their destination.
Just 10 days after heavy rain in New Delhi caused an airport roof to collapse and kill people, Monday’s rains in Mumbai also affected air travel.
Airport authorities had to stop runway operations for over an hour late after midnight.

Karnataka: Red Alerts and School Closures
In Karnataka, the Dakshina Kannada district administration gave a ‘red alert’ for Tuesday, as the weather department expects heavy rain.
Schools and colleges will stay closed on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall continues in parts of Mangaluru. An orange alert was given for the district.
The local administration declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Mangaluru.

Delhi’s Sudden Downpour
A sudden downpour in Delhi surprised citizens and caused heavy waterlogging and traffic jams on Tuesday. The public works department in the city got 22 calls about waterlogging
and three to four complaints about trees falling over by the afternoon. SpiceJet said all departures and arrivals, and their related flights might be affected by the bad weather and asked passengers to check their flight status.

Northeast Monsoon
An active monsoon period and cyclonic activities in northeast Assam will likely bring heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy downpours over northern West Bengal until Thursday, the weather department said. Other places in northern West Bengal that had very high rainfall during this time were Sevoke (170 mm), Buxaduar (150 mm), Nagrakata (140 mm), Jalpaiguri town (130 mm), and Bhutanghat (120 mm).

More than 2 million people have been affected by flooding in northeastern Assam. The Kaziranga National Park, home to the one-horned rhinoceros, was flooded, and six rhinos drowned, authorities said on Sunday.
State authorities said 66 people have died in floods and rain-related incidents since May.

Flooding has also affected 31 villages in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, on the Nepal border, the state government said.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 could change the two-wheeler market a lot. With CNG technology, it can cut fuel costs and lower emissions, which are important for Indian two-wheeler owners.
The bike has a small petrol tank of only two litres, likely for reserve fuel. It reportedly offers a mileage of 213 kilometres per kilogram of CNG, making it very efficient for commuters.
The bike has passed 11 safety tests, as the company shows in a launch video. One test involved a truck rolling over the bike, and the CNG tank remained intact with no change in pressure or didn’t have an explosion.

The motorcycle has telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The top-end model has a front disc brake and a rear drum brake for better braking performance. It also features a negative LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity for added functionality. The Freedom 125 features what Bajaj says is the longest motorcycle seat in the world, which measures 785 mm long. The Bajaj Freedom is equipped with a 125 cc, single-cylinder engine that out 9.4 bhp and 9.7 Nm of torque. The top speed of the bike is 90.5 kmph when running on CNG, and 93.4 kmph when using petrol.

Performance and Safety-

The bike’s design features a flat seat, a wide handlebar, and center-set foot pegs for a comfortable riding position.
The semi-digital instrument cluster shows various indicators, including a low CNG alert and a neutral gear indicator.
The Freedom 125 is perfect for budget-minded buyers, offering a 50% cut in fuel costs compared to other bikes.
It has a small petrol tank and a CNG cylinder, letting you switch fuels easily with a switch on the handlebar.

India’s Automotive Future-

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, at the launch event, expressed the need to reduce India’s crude oil imports and promote alternative fuels.
He highlighted the growth of India’s automobile industry, noting its importance in creating wealth and jobs.
Gadkari expressed pride in India surpassing Japan to become the third-largest automobile market and reiterated his goal of making India a five trillion-dollar economy.

First Rain Ahmedabad:

Ahmedabad experienced its first significant rainfall of Monsoon 2024, with up to 3.5 inches of rainfall in 24 hours, primarily on Monday night. According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), no underpass was closed, and all the gates of the Vasna barrage on the Sabarmati River were also closed. The rainfall varied across different areas of the city. The highest amount of rain was recorded in the Naroda and Memco areas, which received nearly three and a half inches. Despite the heavy rainfall in these areas, the city kept all its underpasses open and the Vasna barrage gates closed to control the water flow.

Monsoon in Gujarat:

The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rain in specific areas like Valsad, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli on Sunday, and Junagadh, Gir-Somnath, Bhavnagar, and Diu on Monday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected. Surat, Narmada, Bharuch, and Tapi are also likely to experience wet weather. Rainfall is forecasted for several districts including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, and Chhota Udepur. Across the state, expect light to moderate rainfall with occasional heavy showers over the next seven days, starting from Sunday. According to a state government release, out of 206 reservoirs in Gujarat, two in Surendranagar district are on high alert, and another reservoir has a warning. The state government assures it is prepared to manage the situation as heavy rain continues during the monsoon.

Monsoon in other states:

The monsoon has also reached parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand, as reported by the IMD.
Weather conditions indicate that it will further progress into more areas of the north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next 3-4 days. On June 25th, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana are expected to experience high temperatures. Heatwave conditions continue to be predicted in West Rajasthan from June 25th to June 27th. After that, a gradual decrease in the hot weather is anticipated.
