Punjab’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dalbir Singh Deol, was reportedly murdered in Jalandhar following a dispute with an autorickshaw driver over a ride to the officer’s village, according to police sources. Dalbir Singh Deol, a former weightlifter and Arjuna Award recipient in 2000, was allegedly shot dead by the autorickshaw driver, identified as Vijay Kumar, after a disagreement arose when Deol demanded to be taken to his village, and the driver refused.
The accused, described as a drug addict, allegedly seized Deol’s service pistol and shot him in the head. Jalandhar police commissioner Swapan Sharma confirmed the arrest of the autorickshaw driver and explained that the refusal to drop the officer at his village resulted in a physical altercation. The arrest was made based on CCTV footage.
Dalbir Singh Deol’s lifeless body was discovered on a road in Basti Bawa Khel, where he was stationed. The incident occurred just eight kilometers from his native village. The body displayed an external injury mark on the head, prompting authorities to examine nearby CCTV footage for insights into the circumstances surrounding his death. Balwinder Singh Randhawa, A-DCP-1, Jalandhar, shared this information with ANI.
