India on Monday successfully test-fired a long-range supersonic missile-assisted torpedo off Odisha’s Balasore coast. The system is designed to enhance the anti-submarine warfare capability beyond the conventional range of torpedoes,” DRDO said. “The Smart Torpedo is a missile assisted release of a light anti-submarine torpedo system that is out of range for anti-submarine warfare operations. This launch and demonstration is critical to establishing anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
The full range capability of the missile was successfully demonstrated during the test. The system is designed to enhance anti-submarine warfare capability far beyond the traditional range of torpedoes.
The test comes after DRDO and the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully test-fired an indigenously designed and developed helicopter-launched stand-off anti-tank (SANT) missile from the Pokhran range on Saturday. The Indian Air Force’s arsenal was further strengthened with long-range bombs and smart anti-airfield weapons.
