In a significant electoral turnaround, the BJP is poised to establish its dominance in Rajasthan, marking a departure from the state’s three-decade tradition of voting out the incumbent party. The 2018 victory of the Congress, which ended Vasundhara Raje’s tenure, gave way to internal strife within the party, leading to Sachin Pilot’s removal as deputy chief minister in 2020.

Despite initial predictions of a close contest between the BJP and Congress, the BJP emerged with a comfortable majority during Sunday’s counting. Acknowledging the unexpected outcome, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot conceded defeat. Notable victories include former CM Vasundhara Raje’s success in Jhalrapatan, securing 1,38,831 votes with a margin of 53,193. Meanwhile, Sachin Pilot triumphed with 1,05,812 votes and a margin of 29,475.

In a striking win, BJP’s Diya Kumari, the Rajsamand MP, clinched the Vidhyadhar Nagar seat with a substantial margin of 71,368 votes. Rajkumar Roat of the Bharat Adivasi Party won the Chorasi assembly constituency. BJP’s Rajyavardhan Rathore, MP and Jhotwara Assembly candidate, secured victory with a margin of 50,167, garnering 1,47,913 votes.

However, a significant setback for the Congress was the defeat of Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi in the Nathdwara seat, losing to BJP’s Vishvaraj Singh Mewar by 7,504 votes. The election results signal a notable shift in political dynamics in Rajasthan, as the BJP prepares to assume governance once again.
