The Congress party, on Thursday, decided to rebrand its upcoming ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra,’ scheduled to commence on January 14, starting from the northeastern region to the western coast. The new name for the march will be ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ announced Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh. He mentioned that the decision to retain the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ brand, established during Rahul Gandhi’s march from Kanyakumari to Srinagar in September 2022 to January 2023, was made during a meeting involving general secretaries, in-charges, PCC chiefs, and CLP leaders.
The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ is set to cover a distance of 1,000 kilometers in Uttar Pradesh, focusing on areas where the party has limited representation, with former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi being the sole Lok Sabha MP. Additionally, the march will span 523 kilometers in West Bengal, covering seven districts in five days. Jairam Ramesh announced that invitations would be extended to all national parties and civil society organizations, and the yatra will traverse 110 districts in total.
The yatra is slated to commence at 12 pm on January 14 from Imphal, Manipur, an area affected by violence. Rahul Gandhi will address the 6,700-km march twice daily over 66 days. The finalized routes will cover 15 states, including Arunachal Pradesh. Initially planned from Arunachal’s Pasighat to Porbandar in Gujarat, the route was altered due to ethnic violence in Manipur since May 3.
