In his recent Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the increasing trend of “big families” organizing weddings overseas. He encouraged individuals to consider hosting wedding celebrations within India to prevent the outflow of the country’s funds. Emphasizing the importance of choosing products made in India for weddings, PM Modi highlighted the estimated business of around ₹5 lakh crore during the wedding season.

During the broadcast, PM Modi questioned the necessity of families going abroad for weddings and urged them to consider hosting celebrations on Indian soil. He emphasized that such weddings contribute to the nation’s economy, providing livelihood opportunities and allowing finances to remain within the country.

“Even poor people will tell their children about your wedding. Can you expand this mission of ‘Vocal for Local’? Why don’t we hold such wedding ceremonies in our own country?” Modi suggested, emphasizing the potential for the development of systems related to hosting large events in India.

PM Modi underlined that active participation in nation-building by the general populace is crucial for a nation’s progress. He cited the success of the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign during the festive season, with business worth over ₹4 lakh crore in the country. The prime minister remarked that this campaign not only strengthens the economy but also guarantees employment and balanced development.

In conclusion, PM Modi’s call for a ‘Vocal for Local’ approach in weddings aligns with his vision for a developed and prosperous India. By encouraging individuals to choose Indian-made products and host celebrations domestically, he aims to bolster the economy and create opportunities for livelihood within the country.
