Kerala Introduces AI Teacher to their students

Share:

According to a recent survey, India has around 55% female teachers across the country. It’s no surprise that the percentage of female teachers in the country exceeds that of male teachers! Women are believed to be the first teachers in anyone’s life, and a school in Kerala took this notion in its literal sense.

A school in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has decided to take a revolutionary step in education by introducing an AI teacher, Iris. Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech, Iris is the first humanoid robot teacher in the state and possibly the entire country. And guess what? She is female.

This innovation comes from KTCT Higher Secondary School, which is an initiative by the Kaduvayil Thangal Charitable Trust. Iris is part of the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project, a 2021 NITI Aayog initiative designed to boost school extracurricular activities.

A video shared by Makerlabs on Instagram showcased the capabilities of this AI teacher, Iris; she can answer complex questions across various subjects, provide personalized voice assistance, and facilitate interactive learning experiences. For added mobility, Iris comes equipped with wheels.

This particular development by a Kerala school shows a significant shift in Kerala’s education landscape. Iris has the potential to personalize learning, cater to different learning styles, and make education more engaging and fun for students.

The AI teacher is expected to revolutionize traditional teaching methods and enhance the overall educational experience for students. There’s no doubt that these innovations in the Indian education system can be a boon, but their long-term impact is yet to be fully realized. Iris provides a glimpse into the future of education, where AI is assumed to play a supportive role in the classroom, making learning more interactive and enjoyable.
