At the beginning of this 22-year development journey, when Narendra Modi took charge of Gujarat, the school dropout rate in Gujarat was very high. Female education was a concern for the state. Addressing both these problems, Chief Minister Narendra Modi started Girl Education and School Entrance Festival from the year 2003.
Chief Minister Modi and representatives of his entire government went from village to village and enrolled children in schools. This tradition brought a big change in the education sector of Gujarat. The dropout rate from 37 percent has come down to 2 percent today. To open new higher education opportunities for the youth, the state government opened specialized universities in the state. The number of universities has increased from 14 to 108.
The youth of Gujarat had to go to other states to study medicine and engineering. Chief Minister Narendra Modi found a solution and increased medical and engineering seats in Gujarat.
Today the number of engineering colleges has increased from 26 to 133, the number of medical seats has increased from 1375 to 6800. To impart skills to the youth, the Chief Minister launched a special skill development mission and linked it with industries. Due to which the manpower was prepared as per the requirement of the industries and the youth got new employment opportunities. Khel Mahakumbh games are organized in the state to increase the interest of the youth of Gujarat in sports and make them reach the Olympics.
