In a shocking incident, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the president of the right-wing group Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jaipur on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the Shyam Nagar area during the afternoon, with initial reports suggesting that four individuals entered a house where Gogamedi was present and opened fire, injuring him and two others.
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, known for his association with Lokendra Singh Kalvi’s Shri Rajput Karni Sena, had played a prominent role in leading protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmaavat’. Later, due to a dispute with the group, he formed his own Karni Sena.
Gogamedi gained prominence during the protests in Rajasthan following the release of the Deepika Padukone-starrer ‘Padmaavat’ and the gangster Anandpal encounter case. His videos related to these incidents had gone viral, bringing him into the limelight.
Jaipur police commissioner Biju George Joseph confirmed that Gogamedi was rushed to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Former Rajput Karni Sena state president Ajit Singh Mamdoli revealed that the assailants had entered Gogamedi’s house under the guise of wanting to meet him. After having tea, they opened fire, resulting in his tragic demise.
A twist emerged when gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang member Rohit Godara Kapurisar claimed responsibility for Gogamedi’s murder through a Facebook post. However, the authenticity of the claim could not be independently verified by news sources.
Expressing shock over the incident, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat stated that he had spoken to the police commissioner, urging swift action to apprehend the culprits. Shekhawat emphasized the BJP government’s commitment to making the state crime-free, a priority of the newly elected government following their victory in the recent assembly election.
