Bharat Ratna Calls for Bal Thackeray: In a significant political move, Raj Thackeray, the leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has urged the government to posthumously award Bharat Ratna to his late uncle and Shiv Sena founder, Bal Thackeray. This appeal has garnered support from within the Shiv Sena as well, with Sanjay Raut echoing the call for recognizing Bal Thackeray’s contributions with the prestigious award.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced Bharat Ratna for former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao, along with MS Swaminathan, recognized as the father of the Indian Green Revolution. PM Modi praised the roles of Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao in shaping India’s economic and political landscape, acknowledging Swaminathan’s remarkable contribution to Indian agriculture.

Communal Unrest in Haldwani: In a contrasting development, the outer areas of violence-stricken Haldwani, Uttarakhand, have seen the lifting of the curfew, while Banbhoolpura, where severe violence occurred, continues to be under curfew. The violence erupted following a demolition drive targeting an illegally built madrasa, resulting in the death of six individuals. The authorities have made five arrests, identified 19 individuals, and included 5,000 others in FIRs.

The situation is reportedly under control, but schools and colleges remain closed, reflecting the impact of the unrest on daily life. Samajwadi Party MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav has condemned the incident, expressing concerns about minority persecution. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the area, promising legal action against the perpetrators, while internet services in Haldwani remain suspended.
