Why India is Facing Extreme Heatwaves?

India has always faced high temperatures, but in recent years the country has experienced extreme heatwaves. A recent analysis by the IMD
India Meteorological Department states that a long-term significant increase in ‘heat stress’ due to high temperatures along with humidity over India.
The extreme heat was faced by parts of Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra during this summer.

Record Temperatures-
The India Meteorological Department noted that this is the highest temperature recorded since June 1, 2019 in general. In 2016 India recorded its highest temperature of 51 degrees Celsius in Rajasthan, this year several parts of the subcontinent have come closer to the 51 degree mark. The Capital of the country also reached its highest temperature ever 49.9 degrees Celsius.

Reason for Extreme heat-
Several factors seem to be contributing to this heat in the region, According to many experts periodic warming of the sea surface in the Pacific Ocean caused moist warm air to rise along the equator line. This effect is called the El Nino Effect. Another critical factor could be the Anti-Cyclones which eventually lead to dry and warm winds. Local Factors could also add to this since India has very densely populated regions throughout the country leading to more automobiles, which could also lead to higher temperatures in a certain number of cities. Additionally, human activities, particularly the burning of agricultural residue and forest fires in the north-western regions of India contribute to to this effect by trapping the heat in the atmosphere.

What about Rain?
IMD predicted that the country can expect ‘above normal’ monsoon rainfall overall, especially in the monsoon zone crucial for rainfall agriculture during June-September. The department also stated the heat wave to lower considerably after May 29th.The monsoon plays a pivotal role in India’s agricultural land.it is also crucial for refilling reservoirs essential for drinking water and power generation across the nation.

Essential tips to avoid summer heatwave

The temperature in the country has broken the record of last 66 years. When the temperature in all major cities of the country is crossing 40 degrees, it is very important to pay attention to your health in this situation. Because many people’s body gets bad due to heat. For which one needs to be careful beforehand.

Always high temperature affects our body, heat cramps, dizziness, vomiting, headache, sunburn or even heat stroke can occur. We tell you that if you don’t take certain steps during the hot season, you too are very likely to experience all these side effects. So to avoid these side effects, the National Disaster Management Authority or National Disaster Management makes some suggestions, which are as follows.

How to avoid dehydration
Even if you don’t feel thirsty, drink enough water as often as possible. If you have to go out that day, don’t forget to carry a water bottle with you. Avoid drinks like tea, coffee and carbonated drinks. Which dehydrates the body.

You should avoid going out in the sun. Don’t forget to apply a high SPF sunscreen especially if you are going to be outside from 12 to 3 p.m. Use adequate amount of sunscreen and apply it well on your face, neck and hands. One more thing to keep in mind. That is, do not go outside immediately after applying. Allow at least 5 to 10 minutes for it to absorb into your skin.

Wear light, ventilated clothing
Wear light, ventilated and perforated cotton clothes to keep yourself comfortable. Avoid heavy fabrics and dark colors. Because they absorb heat easily.

Use umbrella, sunglasses
Cover your eyes with a pair of sunglasses. Also carry an umbrella while outside. You can also use a hat.

Eat fresh and light food

Eating stale food should be avoided. Try to eat light and fresh food. Add seasonal fruits, green vegetables and cucumbers to your diet. Also avoid eating heavy protein foods.
