Even at the age of 61, she is sharing knowledge from mythological chronicles to dating and relationships.

• Rajini Chandy: Who said homemakers cannot make an  internet sensation? Home-maker turned actor Rajini Chandy began her journey in 2021 by setting fire to Instagram with kickass pictures from her photoshoot. The 72-year-old, in a series shot by photographer Athira Joy, was seen wearing everything from sarees, ripped jeans, and denim dresses, to jumpsuits. Chandy, who debuted in Malayalam films at 65 and then appeared on Bigg Boss, told BBC, “I’m just doing what pleases me. I’m learning to play the drums, I’m not aiming for perfection, I’m just having fun… I believe it’s okay to do whatever you want as long as you’re not hurting anyone.”

Her feed was bombarded with comments pulling her down and slut-shaming her for a “photoshoot too sexy for her age.” It came as a rude shock to people when Chandy ditched her saree for a dress. “It’s worse because it shows my legs,” she said. But as cool as she is, Chandy added, “But I have good legs, so it didn’t bother me.”

• Manjri Varde: It’s rightly said “Age is just a number!” and Manjiri has proved it right. Manjri Varde, popular alternatively as actor Sameera Reddy’s mother-in-law, boasts of a colorful Instagram feed with paints and merrymaking. The 70-year-old painter creates a range of abstract, divine, and traditional art, giving over 65K followers a glimpse into her creative world. Her label Samanjri promotes ‘wearable art,’ a comfortable combination of various fabrics, calligraphies, and poetic chants that are all her creations. She is the perfect example to showcase, that there isn’t any age to showcase your passion.

Wait, its not totally our flaw – As humans, we have this innate need to belong and seek social acceptance. Hence why you may or may not have jumped on trends that you thought were silly but because everyone’s doing it, now feels justifiable to follow the crowd. 

Choosing you, over crowd : 

Living for yourself means expressing yourself in a way that is authentic to you. Living for yourself starts to happen when you stop caring about the opinions of others. That means, it’s your choice to be socially active or inactive, and trust me this is not gonna make any difference in your character. 

Stop looking at things that make you overwhelmed, because the moment you have expectations and they fall short, your self-esteem is at risk. 

You know the people you admire who seem to have their life together and exude confidence. When we admire people, we do so because certain traits already exist within us even though they may be underdeveloped in us or completely out of our awareness. Moreover, you want those extra skills that your role model has.

To know what you want from life, you have to start getting to know yourself. 

And I mean spending time alone. 

The issue with wearing proverbial masks is that we begin to lose our authenticity and ourselves in the process of seeking other people’s approval. You can end up losing yourself and not being quite sure who you are. 

In the journey of life, choosing yourself over seeking constant approval becomes a liberating act of self-love. It’s about realizing that your worth isn’t determined by the number of likes or followers you have. Remember, the most fulfilling approval comes from within, and it’s a journey well worth taking.

As of now, the most-followed Instagram account globally is Instagram itself, boasting over 665 million followers. Renowned figures like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi hold the second and third positions with 615 million and 495 million followers, respectively.

In the Indian context, Vicky Kaushal’s accomplishment adds a new dimension to Instagram popularity. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli currently holds the title of the most-followed Asian on Instagram, with over 265 million followers. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra Jonas stands as the most-followed Indian female on the platform, amassing over 90.1 million followers.
