In Beyt Dwarka a demon lived; named Shankhasura. Before going to kill him, Lord Krishna worshiped Kuldevi Maa Harsiddhi at Koyala. Harsiddhi Mata was pleased here with the devotion of Lord Krishna. Mataji asked Lord Krishna that, “You are the ‘Naath’ of the world. You are the ‘Naath of Tribhuvan’ and ‘Govardhan Sudarshandhari’. Why do you need to worship me? Why did you have to remember me?” Then Lord Krishna said, “O Mother, there is an infestation of a demon named Shankhasura in Beyt Dwarka, I need your help to kill him for the sake of the people.”

On the request of Shri Krishna, Harsiddhi Mata promised and said, “When you go to kill Shankhasura, remember me while standing on the shore of the ocean, just by remembering me, I will be there.”

After receiving Mataji’s blessings, Chhappankoti Yadav and Shri Krishna reached at Koyala Dungar (Koyala Hills) and remembered Mataji, where the temple was built. Currently there are about 400 steps to climb Koyala Dungar. Where the devotees get other benefits from the darshan of Mataji.

Devotees of Mata Harsiddhi

There is also a myth behind how Lord Krishna established an idol of Mata Harsiddhi on Koyala Dungar and then her establishment at the foothills.

When traders go to the sea for business purpose, they would place a Shrifal (coconut) in front of Mataji’s temple near Koyala Dungar (Koyala Hills) and pray to Mataji for a pleasant journey. All the travelling traders who did this would have a smooth journey.

Once a merchant of Kutch named Jagdusha passed into the sea near Koyala Dungar with seven of his ships, but he did not take the Shrifal to board the mother, so six of his ships sank when he went ahead.

Jagdusha Seth prayed fervently to Mata Harsiddhi to save his seventh ship. With that, Mataji was pleased with the prayer and asked for a boon.

Jagdusha asked for a boon and said, “Mother, come down from the hill and established here, and give such a boon that no ship will sink here after today.” To test Jagdusha, Mataji said, “If you offer sacrifices at every step, I will fulfill your wish.”

Jagdusha accepted Mataji’s condition and sacrificed an animal at each step. But with the last four steps remaining, he sacrificed his sons, two wives. And the last step sacrificed himself.

Finally, Mataji was pleased with Jagadusha’s devotion and resurrected all of Jagadusha’s family, including the animals. Jagdusha then built another temple of Harsiddhi Mata at the foothills where the Mata was established.

Even today lakhs of devotees come to visit Harsiddhi Mata at Koyala Dungar, both the temples have special significance. Devotees come from far and wide to have darshan of Mother and feel sanctified just by her darshan.
