Poll pundits had widely predicted a third consecutive term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite these forecasts, the INDIA bloc has put up a strong fight, challenging the predictions and showcasing a united front. The BJP’s campaign was orchestrated around Prime Minister Modi, the party’s biggest star campaigner, who actively participated in over 200 public meetings, including numerous rallies and roadshows. His extensive campaigning aimed to consolidate support and galvanize voters across various regions.

On the other hand, the INDIA bloc’s strategy involved joint rallies and collaborative efforts among Opposition leaders, aiming to present a cohesive alternative to the electorate. Their campaign sought to counter the BJP’s narrative and offer a different vision for the country’s future.

The vote counting process began at 8 am amidst tight security measures. The counting of EVM votes started 30 minutes after the postal ballots were tallied. This year’s Lok Sabha election stands out as the second-longest in India’s electoral history, following the inaugural election in 1951-52. To form a government, any party or coalition needs to secure a majority of 272 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Apart from Dalal and Kumbhani, eight other contenders were initially in the fray for the Surat Lok Sabha seat. Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Pyarelal Bharati was the last candidate to withdraw from the contest.

CR Patil, BJP Gujarat chief, congratulated Dalal and shared on social media, “Congratulations and best wishes to Mukesh Dalal, candidate for Surat Lok Sabha seat, for being elected unopposed.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also extended his congratulations to Dalal, referring to his pre-poll victory as the “beginning of historic victory” for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

“This is the beginning of the historic victory of the BJP in the whole of India, including Gujarat in the Lok Sabha polls. This is a clear indication of lotus blossoming with BJP’s resounding victory in all 26 seats in Gujarat…” Patel wrote in a post on social media.

The cancellation of Kumbhani’s nomination came after the election officer found “fake signatures of people who signed as witnesses” on his nomination papers. The Collector’s cancelation order highlighted the use of forged signatures on the nomination form of Kumbhani and his dummy candidate Suresh Padshala.

The closing moments of the video capture the iconic image of PM Modi lying prostrate in devotion after the consecration ceremony on January 22 at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
