Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized Union Minister Smriti Irani for her comments on the LGBTQIA+ community. Several Opposition leaders, including Priyanka Chaturvedi and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate, condemned Irani’s statements. Shrinate clarified that LGBTQIA+ encompasses men and menstruating women, urging Irani to educate herself on the matter. The criticism also touched upon Irani’s previous stance against paid menstruation leave, where she argued that menstruation is a natural part of women’s lives and not a handicap deserving paid leave.

The controversy highlights the need for a more inclusive and informed approach to LGBTQIA+ issues, with leaders calling for greater awareness and sensitivity on such matters.
