Indian shooters have made a remarkable impact at the Paris Olympics 2024, with Swapnil Kusale adding to their impressive tally by securing a bronze medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions event on August 1. Swapnil’s achievement marks him as the third Indian shooter to earn a medal in Paris, joining Manu Bhaker, who has won two medals, and Sarbjot Singh.

Born on August 6, 1995, in the small village of Kambalwadi, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Swapnil comes from an agricultural family supported by his father. His journey into shooting began at the age of 14 when his father enrolled him in the Maharashtra government’s Krida Prabodini sports program in 2009. Though initially interested in cycling, Swapnil’s passion for shooting grew, and his father went to great lengths, including taking loans, to support his ambitions. Swapnil also attended the esteemed Bhonsala Military School in Nashik to further his training.

Reflecting on his achievement, Swapnil expressed admiration for MS Dhoni, citing his calmness and patience as qualities he strives to emulate in his own sport. Swapnil also resonated with Dhoni’s humble beginnings, drawing a parallel to his own experience as a ticket collector.
