A male passenger on a Mumbai-Bengaluru SpiceJet flight experienced an unusual and inconvenient situation when he became trapped inside the aircraft’s toilet for over an hour due to a malfunction in the door lock. The incident occurred on Flight SG-268, departing from Mumbai at 2 am on Tuesday.
Despite attempts by the crew and fellow passengers to open the door from the outside, they were unsuccessful. To reassure the trapped passenger, the crew slid a note under the door, instructing him to remain calm, sit on the closed commode lid, and secure himself until engineers could address the situation upon landing at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru.

Upon arrival at approximately 3.42 am, engineers boarded the plane and successfully broke open the door, rescuing the passenger. SpiceJet, in a statement, confirmed the incident, apologized for the inconvenience caused, and assured the passenger of a full refund.
The airline expressed regret for the situation, stating that the passenger received immediate medical support upon being freed. The incident underscores the challenges posed by technical malfunctions and highlights the importance of prompt and effective response measures to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
