Fresh Terror Attack After Army Chief’s Visit Thwarted In Jammu’s Rajouri

Share:

Today, the Indian Army successfully repelled a major terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Initial reports indicate that one soldier was injured during the predawn assault on an army camp. Following the attack, security forces launched a large-scale search operation to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area, according to a defense spokesman. This incident underscores the escalating security challenges in the region amidst a recent surge in terrorist activities.

The assault occurred less than 24 hours after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Jammu to discuss strategies in response to the increasing frequency of terrorist attacks targeting army installations. Reports suggest that a heavily armed group of terrorists targeted an army camp and the residence of Shaurya Chakra Awardee Parshotam Kumar in Gunda village. Kumar, a village Defense Guard, had played a pivotal role in neutralizing two terrorists in the same area last August and was recently honored with the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery by President Droupadi Murmu.

Despite a robust retaliation by the army, the attackers managed to flee the scene, marking another audacious strike against military personnel in the region. Just days earlier, a temporary army camp set up in a school in Doda district was attacked with heavy gunfire and grenades, resulting in the tragic deaths of four soldiers, including a captain. This incident followed closely on the heels of another attack in Kathua where five soldiers lost their lives in an ambush.

In response to the heightened threat, the Army has intensified its presence in Jammu, deploying additional troops and special forces commandos to combat the highly trained terrorists operating in the area. Over the past 32 months alone, 48 army soldiers have lost their lives in terrorist attacks in Jammu, highlighting the persistent security challenges faced by the military.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to address the alarming increase in terrorist activities in Jammu. He has urged the army to utilize its full spectrum of anti-terrorist capabilities to root out terrorism from the region. Despite extensive cordon and search operations by security forces across different areas of Jammu, terrorist attacks continue to pose a significant threat to peace and stability in the region.
