In the realm of action-packed adventures, it’s often men who dominate the spotlight. However, director Rajesh Krishnan’s latest offering, “Crew,” flips the script by delivering a breath of fresh air with its unique plot and empowering portrayal of its three female protagonists: Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon. In this heist comedy, they embody characters who are not only feisty and fearless but also immensely enjoyable to watch. Despite some bizarre turns and occasional lapses in coherence, “Crew” remains a delightful and refreshing cinematic experience.

The Plot: “Geeta Sethi” (Tabu), “Jasmine Bajwa” (Kareena), and “Divya Rana” (Kriti) are air hostesses working for Kohinoor Airlines, reminiscent of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Each woman harbors dreams of a better life: Geeta and her husband aspire to open a restaurant in Goa, Jasmine indulges in a lavish lifestyle while grappling with her roots, and Divya struggles with familial expectations while nursing her own aspirations. Their lives take a dramatic turn when they become embroiled in a smuggling investigation after the airline’s chairman absconds with their salaries. Determined to reclaim what’s rightfully theirs, the trio devises outlandish schemes to outsmart both the authorities and their elusive employer.

Great Intentions, Mixed Execution: While the premise holds promise for a captivating heist comedy, “Crew” falters at times due to its erratic screenplay and disjointed narrative. Despite this, writers Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri infuse the script with witty one-liners and comedic punches that evoke genuine laughter. The camaraderie between the leading trio shines brightest, injecting the film with moments of levity even amidst chaos. However, the film’s second half suffers from rushed storytelling and contrived resolutions, preventing it from reaching its full potential. Nevertheless, the infectious chemistry between the protagonists salvages the viewing experience and prevents it from crashing entirely.

Empowering Female Friendships: At its core, “Crew” celebrates the bonds of female friendship and the resilience of women in the face of adversity. Through laughter and tears, the protagonists navigate a series of misadventures, transforming the narrative into a heartwarming sitcom at times. While the film occasionally resorts to convenient plot devices, it remains an enjoyable watch thanks to the infectious energy of its leading ladies.

Final Thoughts: “Crew” may stumble in its execution, but its bold approach to storytelling and empowering portrayal of women make it a noteworthy addition to the heist comedy genre. Despite its flaws, the film offers a refreshing perspective and a much-needed departure from conventional narratives. So, sit back, relax, and join Geeta, Jasmine, and Divya on their rollicking adventure—it’s a ride you won’t soon forget.
