Yashasvi Jaiswal made a stellar impact in the second Test against England, crafting a magnificent double century at Visakhapatnam’s ACA-VDCA Stadium. The young opener’s phenomenal performance marked him as the first Indian since November 2019 to achieve a double century in Test cricket, following in the footsteps of Mayank Agarwal.

Known for his attacking style, Jaiswal exhibited exceptional composure amid regular wicket falls at the other end, reaching his double century in 277 balls. At 22, he became the third-youngest Indian to achieve this milestone, trailing only Sunil Gavaskar and Vinod Kambli. Additionally, Jaiswal is the first left-handed batter since Gautam Gambhir in 2008 to secure a Test double.

Joining an elite group of Indian left-handers with Test double centuries, Jaiswal follows the footsteps of Kambli, Gambhir, and Sourav Ganguly. After a promising start in the previous Test, Jaiswal emphasized trusting his processes and maintaining discipline in challenging conditions.

Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid’s guidance played a crucial role, urging him to stay calm and convert his hundred into a substantial innings. Jaiswal’s outstanding performance on Day 1 positioned India strongly at 336 for six, with no other batter managing a half-century.

On Day 2, Jaiswal exhibited resilience against James Anderson’s pace, ensuring he navigated through testing moments without succumbing to aggressive instincts. His century and double century were marked by a six and a boundary, showcasing his versatility with both ground strokes and aerial shots.

With this double century, Jaiswal now boasts two centuries and two half-centuries in just his 10th Test innings. His fearless approach against spinners and ability to dominate the bowling attack drew applause from the Vizag crowd and teammates alike, solidifying his growing stature in Indian cricket.
